Overlooking the Grand Harbour and in close proximity to its facilities, the Kordin Industrial Estate has an area of around 250,000sqm. Besides having a Business Incubation Centre and a childcare centre facility, the industrial estate is home to a large number of companies operating in a wide variety of sectors, such as food and beverages, engineering services and battery manufacturing, metal fabrications, plastics and products thereof, among others.
Under the rule of the Order of the Knights of St John, who built the capital city in Valletta on the other side of the harbour, the importance of Kordin rose significantly as its shores were used for both military and commercial purposes. Besides retaining its importance in terms of trade and industrial production, nowadays Kordin also houses the Malta College for Arts, Sciences and Technology (MCAST), which is one of the main educational institutions in Malta.
